Is Google Analytics illegal?

Yes, said the Austrian Data Protection Authority and today the French DPA agreed!

Exciting times to be a European, privacy-focused web analytics project ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Releases are always scary. I began writing a testsuite to test the modem using Sxmo. Here is a demo of the progress so far:

Just migrated all my docker stuff to podman, it's has a less monolithical approach that I find more appealing, whilst offering full compatibility... Let's see how I like it..

Sxmo 1.8.1 will be released soon with a fix for one of our most annoying and persistent issues - `sxmo_migrate.sh` between upgrades.

I have written a blog post about the change and why we need users to `sxmo_migrate.sh` on upgrades here:

First came the Google Analytics news from Austria and now Google Fonts ruling in Germany...

It seems like the EU is catching up to my old post on how to de-Google a website. YouTube embeds next!? ๐Ÿ‘€

More fun publisher surveillance:
Elsevier embeds a hash in the PDF metadata that is *unique for each time a PDF is downloaded*, this is a diff between metadata from two of the same paper. Combined with access timestamps, they can uniquely identify the source of any shared PDFs.

okay, now my #pinePDA is running sxmo since @kelbot gave me the magic swipe gesture to make it go landscape.

multiple workspaces, the toot-lab in one via firefox in fullscreen mode and zoom at 50%, and this is quite the little pocket computer!

My computer is not your billboard

I don't consent to downloading, executing or viewing your ads. You are not entitled to my time, my attention, my computer.

I don't care how much you want the money. How much you say you need it. If you don't want me freeloading, put a paywall; I might not pay, but I don't object to being denied a webpage. I object to ads.

There are no acceptable or ethical ads. Ads are distractions, annoyances, disruptions. They interfere with people's work, fun, mental health.

Sxmo 1.7.0 was just released, featuring most of all lots of fixes and small improvements that should make daily usage easier. Thanks to the many contributors!

tfw Mozilla goes in on crypto nonsense, and the original creators of the Firefox browser call them out on their bullshit.

After 6 long months of waiting, #postmarketOS v21.12 is live! This release contains 8 more devices, bringing our total number supported in stable releases up to 23! This time also featuring #ttyescape, a way to "escape" to a tty with graphical keyboard when things go bad.

Get it now while it's still hot!
